Total Film magazine cover

Total film is Britain's second best selling film magazine. It is published by Future Publishing and was launched in 1997. The magazine is published every four weeks.

"Total Film" masthead is is effective in the presentation of the magazine as one of the words is Incorporated into the other. The word Film is in large, white, block capitals so it stands out and is the largest font on the page making sure it's the most noticeable. The word Total is in smaller font and presented using it's signature colour of red to stand out being an Incorporated word. The word film is larger to put more emphasis on it, as the noun represents the genre of the magazine.

The film magazine includes various genres the main theme being action/adventure easily identified by King Kong being the main headline. The correct house colour and fonts will be used to present the magazine and allow it to stand out. This magazine has used two colours to present the cover, yellow and white which stands out on the dark background used and fits in with the film context. The use of block capitals and yellow font used to present "King Kong" grabs the attention of the audience and uses the same colour to present the other head linings. This magazine also uses headlining of other featuring films at the top of the magazine.

The image used draws attention to the audience as the two people are looking directly at the camera holding each other to convey a story this image gives away, e.g love, hope and mystery to result an idea of a real adventure film ready to be unravelled. An image is used for the background scenery also which makes the magazine look more professional, interesting and appealing to the audience. This Film Magazine is very well known therefor it can use the image to cover part of the mast head of the magazine, allowing the magazine to be presented in the best way.

The magazine also uses different language techniques such as, rhetorical questions, "Sex with an Octopus?" used to draw the reader in and want to know what is ment by the question. It also uses elipses in smaller font for "Heads up our..." which leads to a suspence of what the next bit of information is to come and make the audience want to read on.
